In another convincing victory the St George Illawarra Dragons have displayed that they will yet again be the team to beat in the coming 2011 NRL competition. While the team has lost some high profile players such as Jeremy Smith and Neville Costigan, there were encouraging signs with a number of younger players performing well in yesterdays win. Although the Rabbits were not overly impressive, they were missing some key players, which would have influenced the result. In reality the Charity Shield is a trial and Souths should make the finals with the roster they have, anything else will be a failure.
No doubt the Dragons will be the benchmark in this years premiership, however it will be interesting to see if they can repeat their outstanding performance of 2010. Coach Wayne Bennett’s history at the Brisbane Broncos proves that he can get the best out of his players year after year. The defence of the 2010 NRL premiership will be a difficult task with the salary cap bringing teams closer together than ever before.
Good luck to the mighty Dragons in this year’s competition. Hopefully they can win the minor premiership for the third straight year and follow it up will a win in the decider.
